This is just a random collections of scribbles from my sketchbook. They were drawn for the sake of drawing.
On the left we have Hatsune Miku, the virtual diva from Japan, whose vocals are synthesised using the software known as Vocaloid. I started getting into the Vocaloid universe at the beginning of this year. For something that is computer generated, there is a surprising amount of emotion that can be brought out of a song.
This sketch was inspired by the live Hatsune Miku concert, Mikupa 2010. In particular the song, "The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku." I use to draw in an Manga/Anime style all the time. But, it became the apparent that that would lead to more problems later. Coming back to it is quite refreshing. All that time drawing realism actually made this much easer that I thought. Given that this isn't meant to be too realistic, The only criticisms I have is that it doesn't really capture movement very well and that face isn't that well done. It could have had a lot more emotion.
The next random piece in the top middle is Black Rock Shooter, a unique character designed by the artist Huke. I like the character design, it reads well because of the unique silhouette and contrasting features. The entire character has a black and white theme with blue highlights. I can't really say much about the piece I did. It was just something off the top of my head.
We move over into a slightly more western style with characters from the dark humour comic, Lenore the Cute Little Dead Girl, by Roman Dirge. In the top left corner is Lenore herself, a dead girl who is oblivious towards the subject of morals. Along with her weird friends, she ends up in some amusing situations. This particular piece was meant to capture excitement and innocence, covering up a possible hint of maliciousness.
The next character in the bottom middle is Taxidermy, one of Lenore's friend. He is just weird.
